This beginner class has been designed to introduce students to the basic skills and techniques involved in silversmithing. Whether you are making jewelry for yourself, for gift giving or if you are interested in forging a path to becoming a silversmith this course is a fun way to learn something new. Over this 6-week hands-on program, you will learn the foundational skills of silversmithing. Students will complete 2 projects: one pendant and one ring, each project focusing on different areas of metalwork. You will be introduced to commonly used tools, aspects of design, piercing, sawing, bezel making, stone setting, and soldering.
A basic silversmithing tool kit is required for this class, which can be purchased for $190. Sterling silver and gemstones will also be available for purchase in the form of project kits. The estimated cost of each project kit is $60-80; this cost is dependent on metal quantity and stone choice. No previous experience is necessary.
