Fund your graduate studies

A post-graduate credential can be an expensive endeavor, ranging from a few thousand dollars to over $100,000 for some professional programs such as dental school. This can be an exciting venture, and you will need to know how to finance this portion of your education.

Here are some resources to assist with planning your financial approach to further studies:

1

Stay local

Explore a program close to home to reduce the cost of travel or relocation. UFV offers several post-graduate programs, as do other Lower Mainland institutions.

2

Check UFV's Financial Aid scholarship opportunities

UFV’s Financial Aid and Awards has opportunities for funding for both UFV graduate scholarships and external graduate scholarships. Refer to the  Graduate Funding Opportunities page to view awards.

3

Take advantage of special funding programs

Many organizations that provide funding including non-profit organizations, banks and other companies, employers (i.e., a parent or your own employer). Funding for special groups or populations is also available in many cases. For example:

  • Indigenous Services Canada allows to search over 650 bursaries, scholarships and incentives aimed at Indigenous students pursuing post-secondary education in Canada.
4

Consider applying for loans or grants

  • Talk to future graduate supervisors about funding within their lab research grants.
  • Look for grants as much as possible to reduce the need for repayment.
  • Look at private loans from your bank.
