Values

Toward a Statement of Values

The following includes four principal commitments that reflect and summarize the department's values.

Diversity
We value all people in their diversity and recognize the dignity inherent to each person. Therefore, the department strives to cultivate postures of openness towards all people and their cultures, backgrounds, talents, disciplines, and points-of-view.

Character
We value the habits of virtue and the integrity of professionalism. Accordingly, the department strives to nurture respectfulness, honesty, integrity, humility, dependability, and other attributes and manifestations of good character and professional ethics.

Academic Rigor
We value sound scholarship, scientific enquiry, careful methodology, and interdisciplinary forms of knowing within and beyond the academic discipline of kinesiology. Through high quality teaching and co-curricular opportunities we aim to foster both thoughtful and engaged students and co-professionals.

Physical Activity
We value lifetime physical activity and the significant contribution it makes in promoting physical performance, fitness, health, and quality of life. We therefore strive not only to cultivate physical literacy but also to lower barriers to participation.

The kinesiology program has not only exposed me to the theory, but has equipped me with a vast amount of practical knowledge, applications, and tools to use in the future. This program has led me to pursue a career in medicine where I can have a positive impact on other and help them live a healthy life.
