School of Creative Arts

Our mission

The School of Creative Arts (SoCA) at UFV encompasses the Media Arts, Theatre, and Visual Arts & Art History areas. By combining digital technologies and media with traditional arts practice and performance, SoCA aims to serve as a cultural hub and centre of creative innovation in the Fraser Valley.

We create, teach, and learn in the traditional territory of the Stó:lō people. We believe that creative practice and critical analysis can transform individuals and society.

Mission

The School of Creative Arts is a centre for creative practice and interdisciplinary study. Our community embraces diverse perspectives while nurturing critical, artistic, and personal expression. We engage students through an integration of theoretical and practical training—cultivating a breadth of learning, from historical contextualization to technical competencies.

Vision

The School of Creative Arts is a dynamic, innovative, and socially engaged community. All members of the School are respected and valued. We work professionally and ethically, autonomously and collaboratively, courageously and creatively. Our practices are socially and environmentally sustainable. We act with empathy, presence, and optimism. We promote the value of the arts in society, and use critical and creative practices to advocate for a more just society.
