PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Adult Education at UFV equips its graduates with the full set of strategies and tools to engage and empower learners in their own specific academic, workplace, and community educational contexts.

How do you engage employees in HR training?

What is the best way to train new employees?

How is learning in an onsite workshop different than an online webinar?

The Adult Education minor offers students a suite of knowledge and skills to answer these questions. With an Adult Education minor you gain transferrable skills that are relevant to your discipline. These include the development and application of theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to curriculum, instructional design, teaching, and assessment to the formal, informal, and non-formal learning spaces.

An Adult Education minor adds significant value to the following degrees:

  • Bachelor of Integrated Studies
  • Bachelor of Kinesiology
  • Bachelor of Computer Information Systems
  • Bachelor of Arts (Humanities or Social Sciences)
  • Bachelor of Arts (Criminal Justice)
  • Bachelor of Arts (Environmental Studies)
  • Bachelor of Business Administration
  • Bachelor of Science

For example, it would provide a strong base for a CIS student to take on mentoring roles in an evolving knowledge-intensive industry; a BA (Criminal Justice) grad to plan and implement training; an Environmental Studies student to engage in community education; and a Kinesiology student in blending teaching and assessment effectively in their work in physical education.

While many are still adapting to online learning, Adult Education at UFV has been leading the way! I’ve taken online courses from other institutions, and UFV’s dedication to technologies made for my best overall online learning experience. The most important thing about my experience at UFV is the feeling that I mattered to the school and my instructors. I wasn’t just a faceless student, even in an online environment.
