Upgrading and University Preparation

How to apply

Workplace TASK applications: If you are interested in applying to the Workplace TASK program, click here to view the program's application process.

1

Apply for admission

In order to take Upgrading and University Preparation (UUP) Adult Basic Education (ABE) courses, you must first apply to UFV online.

There is no application fee when you apply as a new or returning upgrading Adult Basic Education (ABE), Adult Basic Education University Preparation (ABEUP) student.

Once you have applied to UFV online, submit your high school transcript to UFV. For more information, visit the UFV Admissions page.

Note: If you are already a UFV student in another program but would like to take an upgrading course, then skip this step and move to step 2.

2

Book an appointment

Whether you want to complete high school or upgrade courses, a UUP assistant can help you figure out which classes to take. When you have received your UFV student number, you can book your appointment.

3

Take an assessment

As an upgrading student, you may need to take an assessment to measure reading, writing, and math skills. Completing the assessment helps place you in a course level that's comfortable and meets your skill level. A UUP assistant can review your educational background and/or high school transcript to let you know if you need to take an assessment.

4

Register for classes

You may register for classes through your myUFV account once your application has been processed and you've been assigned a registration date. To learn more about registration, finding your registration time, and the UFV timetable, watch a video tutorial.

If you have problems choosing classes or with the registration process, you can either contact the Office of the Registrar, or contact the Upgrading and University Preparation department to get help.

Upgrading through UFV was absolutely the right decision for me. I could get my foot in the door at a wonderful university, and despite having not yet completed high school, I feel like a real university student! The upgrading courses are fun and have a relaxed environment — allowing you to thrive and flourish academically.
