Book your CWB welding test at the University of the Fraser Valley, an accredited Welder Testing Centre of the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) Group, authorized to test CSA W47.1.
How to book your test:
1. Call the Office of the Registrar and register with the CRN for the number of plates you are testing. Test rates and CRNs are listed in the table below.
2. Email industryservices@ufv.ca to indicate which process and position you are testing.

Wear cotton or wool clothing (no synthetic fibers), coveralls, and steel-toed boots. Bring safety glasses, hearing protection, welding helmet, gloves, and leathers or fire-retardant jacket. Respirator recommended.
If you do not bring appropriate clothing and footwear, your access to the welding shop will be denied.
Bring your own hand tools.

CWB Welder Testing | July 8 - 10, 2025
3 sessions | Tuesday & Thursday 4:00 pm - 9:30 pm; Wednesday 8:00 am - 1:30 pm
Schedule:
July 8, Tuesday - Students will tack and prepare their test plates to instructor's approval. Students will have the remainder of the evening to set up their booth/machine and practice for their test.
July 9, Wednesday - Students will begin the day with their CWB Test. Upon visual approval, students will begin preparing their coupons for bend testing.
July 10, Thursday - Students will finish preparing and bending their coupons. Students will clean their booths/work areas and upon instructor's approval, will be dismissed for the evening.
CWB test results will be emailed to students within two to three weeks.
Cost: $180
Welding booth rentals are available only to individuals with prior welding experience who wish to refine their skills.
Welders are required to bring their own tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
If you don`t have PPE, your access to the shop will be denied.
Email industryservices@ufv.ca to set up an interview with the Welding Instructor. Upon completion of this interview, you will be provided with the CRN to register.

This introductory one-day course is suitable for beginners looking to enhance their welding skills, whether to boost employability or to pursue as as passionate hobbyist. It is strongly recommended for agriculture students. This course covers all widely used welding processes, with the most common electrodes and the safe operation of oxy-fuel cutting equipment.
Wear cotton or wool clothing (no synthetic fibers), coveralls, and steel-toed boots. If you do not bring appropriate clothing and footwear, your access to the welding shop will be limited.
Bring a cap (or welding helmet if you have one), welding gloves and safety glasses as supply of equipment to borrow is limited.
Hair should be tied back.

Receive thorough instruction on industrial and light duty power sources, safe use of the equipment, electrical characteristics, appropriate wire selection, and operation of the GMAW process. Use different combinations of welding wires and welding gases, while learning most types of flat, horizontal, and vertical welding on mild steel plate.
Wear cotton or wool clothing (no synthetic fibers), coveralls, and steel-toed boots. If you do not bring appropriate clothing and footwear, your access to the welding shop will be limited.
Bring your own welding gloves and welding helmet as supply of equipment to borrow is limited.
Hair should be tied back.

Prerequisite: Welding Essential Skills course or previous experience
Receive thorough instruction on industrial and light duty power sources, safe use of the equipment, electrical characteristics, appropriate electrode and filler metal selection, and operation of the GTAW process. Use GTAW in a number of different welding applications, while learning flat, horizontal, and vertical welding on steel, stainless steel and aluminum.
Wear cotton or wool clothing (no synthetic fibers), coveralls, and steel-toed boots. If you do not bring appropriate clothing and footwear, your access to the welding shop will be limited.
Bring your own welding gloves and welding helmet as supply of equipment to borrow is limited.
Hair should be tied back.
