Medical Office Assistant certificate
The Medical Office Assistant certificate program is
designed to prepare students to work as medical office assistants in the medical
field.
Entrance requirements
1. Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
2. Proficient use of the English language. (See English language proficiency requirement in the Admissions section of the calendar for details on this requirement.) A final grade of C+ or better in English 12, or a CPT (Composition Placement Test) score of 48 or better or successful completion of ESL (English as a Second Language) course level 80 English meets the English language proficiency requirement.
3. 30 net wpm minimum typing speed (attach copy of
certification).
4. Successful interview with instructor.
5. Willingness to undergo a criminal record check.
Note 1: It is assumed that applicants will possess basic computer skills.
Note 2: A typing speed of 40 net wpm is required for graduation from this program.
When to apply Applications are accepted on a continuous basis throughout the year. Qualified applicants are considered for the next intake in which there is space. See Continuous application process for more information.
How to apply
1. Fill out a UFV Application for Admission form (available at ufv.ca/admissions/admissions/apply).
2. Attach all required documentation and submit the
completed application package to the Continuing Studies office at the Clearbrook Centre.
3. Pending seat availability, applicants who have provided complete applications will be contacted by telephone to arrange an interview. Admission to this program is dependent on a successful interview with the program instructor.
Course schedule
This full-time program begins February of each year. The program is
held at the Clearbrook Centre. Classes are held Monday through Thursday from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.
Student evaluation
Students will be evaluated on classroom participation,
classroom assignments, study projects, and by examination.
Students must successfully complete the theory
component with a grade average of 80% before being assigned a practicum
placement.
Workload
In addition to classroom activities, students will be
required to research, study and prepare assignments outside of class for
approximately 6–8 hours per week.
Attendance policy
A 90% attendance record must be achieved to
successfully complete the course.

deductible.
