Ian is Faculty Emeritus of the Economics Department at UFV.
Ian was most recently interim head, Department of Computer Information Systems, Faculty of Science. From 2010-2013, Ian was Advisor to the Provost, responsible for initiating institution wide planning processes at UFV. From 2008-2010, Ian was Director of Facilities Operations, a position he assumed following an interim role as Acting Dean in the Faculty of Professional Studies.
Ian's administrative assignments have punctuated a lengthy career teaching economics, during which time he has been a consistently energetic supporter of students and contributor to a number of academic development and governance committees at UFV.
Ian also served for many years as Secretary Treasurer of the Faculty and Staff Association and led three collective agreement negotiations. Ian is an experienced educator with a truly "360" perspective about the needs of our students and the mission of the university.
Prior to his teaching career, Ian has worked in government, nationally and provincially (Bureau of Competition Policy, and BC Ministry of Forests), and as an economic researcher for a Vancouver based transportation consultancy and for two provincial commissions of inquiry. Ian holds a Master's Degree in Resources Management from SFU.
Ian's disciplinary research interests have centered on microeconomic industry and policy issues related mainly to regulation, resources and the environment.
