Nominate someone great

Launched in 2016 by the UFV Board of Governors, UFV Service Excellence Awards are presented annually to recognize and celebrate UFV staff and faculty excellence in service, leadership, teamwork, and Indigenization and Reconciliation that supports the values, mission, and goals of UFV. 

Award winners will be recognized at an annual employee recognition event and receive a monetary prize. 

Nominate an individual or team that you think deserves recognition before February 16, 2024. 

Selection criteria

Current UFV faculty and staff can be nominated in four categories. Please review the selection criteria before beginning the nomination process.

The Staff Excellence award recognizes UFV staff members who have demonstrated excellence in their service to the university. Through their exemplary professionalism and achievements, they have supported their colleagues in advancing the mission and goals of the university. 

Recipients will have met a number of the following criteria:

  • They have excelled in the fulfillment of their assigned roles and responsibilities, frequently exceeding expectations;
  • They demonstrate initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness in their work;
  • They are directly responsible for improvements in the ways they do their work and manage their areas of responsibility;
  • They exhibit the highest standards of professionalism, commitment, integrity, and accountability in their work;
  • They demonstrate a commitment to the well-being of colleagues by supporting their needs and professional development, and contributing significantly to the development of a positive, respectful work environment;
  • They exhibit and promote commitment to the values, vision, and goals of the university and the division where they work.


The Inspirational Leadership award recognizes UFV staff (FSA & exempt) and faculty members noted for their inspirational leadership and support of others in the service of the university’s mission and goals. They are known for their leadership-by-example and for the ways they engage, empower and promote the achievements of colleagues. 

Recipients will have met a number of the following criteria:

  • They model the highest standards of professionalism, commitment, integrity, and accountability in their own work;
  • They lead, not by authority, but by example and through encouragement and inspiration for the benefit of others;
  • They promote a culture of respect, dignity, fairness, and trust;
  • They facilitate dialogue, the sharing of ideas, and collaboration toward shared purposes;
  • They energize those working with them, inspiring engagement and shared vision;
  • They foster creativity, innovation, and collaboration in the work of others;
  • They champion the work of others above their own;
  • They demonstrate genuine care and support for the career and personal development of others.


The UFV Teamwork award recognizes teams who exemplify best practices of collegial, supportive and effective collaboration in the service of the mission and goals of the University.  

Recipients will have met a number of the following criteria:

  • The team will have made an important and notable contribution to the achievement of the mission and goals of the university;
  • The team will have a reputation for collegiality and respectful collaboration that builds on individual and shared strengths;
  • The team will be recognized for the way in which diversity in its membership has contributed to the success of the team;
  • The team will exemplify the best practices of shared leadership, cooperation, respect for diversity, and accountability;
  • The success of the team will be championed by all its members, rather than the contributions or achievements of specific members.


The UFV Indigenization & Reconciliation Award recognizes any individual UFV staff, faculty, or exempt employee or team who meets the following criteria:

  1. They demonstrate UFV’s commitment to enhancing respectful, relevant, and responsive post-secondary education and training that supports the personal development, success, and participation of Indigenous employees and students;
  2. They demonstrate the ability to do their work in a good way that embodies the 4Rs: Respect, Relevance, Reciprocity, Responsibility1;
  3. They promote knowledge of and respect for Aboriginal history, language, culture, values and Indigenous ways of knowing in their work;
  4. They are engaged with Indigenous peoples and communities, ensuring that they are respectful of, and relevant and responsive to, the social, cultural, and economic development of Indigenous communities, embracing the idea of “nothing about us or for us without us;” and
  5. They provide evidence that the work has taken place at least partially during the last 12 months.

Who is eligible?

Permanent UFV staff and faculty (FSA and exempt) employed by the University on a continuous basis for at least three years as of December 31 of the nomination year are eligible.

Senior administrators and current members of the Service Excellence Award Selection Committees, or those who have received this award in the past five years, are not eligible. 

Who can make a nomination? 

UFV faculty or staff (FSA and exempt), students, alumni, or members of the Board of Governors who are not in a conflict of interest may nominate candidates for the award. Please review UFV conflict of interest policy to make sure you are eligible to nominate.

Have your nomination form and letters of support completed and signed. Combine all documents into one PDF.
