Teaching Philosophy

I believe that students can be the best teachers for other students. My classroom utilizes collaborative and peer-to-peer learning to engage students of various backgrounds and experiences with mathematics.

Teaching Interests

I currently find myself interested in teaching mathematics to prospective elementary and secondary mathematics teachers in a way that combines advanced and elementary mathematics. I have extensive experience in teaching university calculus and am exploring how I can integrate inquiry of social issues into these courses.

Research Interests

My primary research interest is in the role that advanced mathematics content knowledge plays in secondary mathematics teachers’ knowledge for teaching. Other interests include the integration of social justice in mathematics education, evaluation of innovative teaching techniques in undergraduate mathematics, and mathematics graduate students’ identities as instructors.
