Step-by-step

How to add a link to your content

  1. Select the text where you want to add the link.
  1. Click the link icon  in the toolbar of the content editor.
  1. Continue with the steps below for the type of link you need.

How to add an external link

An external link sends users to a website outside of UFV.ca.

  1. Select the link to external site option
  1. Paste in the url (website address) of the page you want to link to.
  1. Give your link a title to support content accessibility.
  1. Choose whether you want the content to open in the same window or a new window. (We recommend sticking with the current window.)
  1. Click save and then use preview to test that your link is functioning.

How to add an internal (section) link

A section link sends users to a section within the UFV.ca website. The advantage of a section link is that if a web editor changes the section's name or moves it, the section link will update automatically and not break.

  1. Select the insert section link option.
  1. T4 will prompt you to select the section you want to link to. Scroll to the correct section and click on it. You may need to use the + icon to show all the available sections.
  1. Your link should now be visible. To edit the link text, title, or window used, click on the link and make your changes.

How to add a content link

A content link is a special form of section link that sends users to a specific content block on a section. This can be useful if you want your users to see a piece of content that is in the middle of a long webpage. If the page you want to send users to is built with a single long content block, you may need to arrange for the content to be divided into separate blocks first.

  1. Select the insert content link option.
  1. T4 will prompt you to select the section you want to link to. Scroll to the correct section and click on it. You may need to use the + icon to show all the available sections.
  1. After you select the section, you will see the available content blocks on that page. Choose the appropriate block.
  1. Your link should now be visible. To edit the link text, title, or window used, click on the link and make your changes.

Troubleshooting

The best way to update a link

Editing an existing link can cause issues. Instead, you should remove the link first, then insert a fresh link to be sure your new link will be error-free.

To remove a link, right-click on the link, and select Remove link or click the Remove link button in the editor.
