UFV web editor basic training is a hands-on, self-guided course that covers web best practices and gives you all the tools you need to maintain a website using UFV’s content management system, TerminalFour (T4). The course is organized into two modules that include quizzes, videos, training exercises, and a training area to apply what you’ve learned.

To become a web editor at UFV, you will need to complete both modules and pass the assessments. Depending on your job responsibilities and requirements, you may take one of the training modules only.

 

What are the training options?

 

Writing for the web at UFV


Available to:
All employees including auxiliary staff & students employee (internship, co-op work term, practicum)


Take this course if:
you manage a blog, a website powered by WordPress, or you want to learn about web best practices


Time commitment:
1.5 to 2 hours

 

T4 training for UFV web editors


Available to:
Permanent employees (full-time or part-time)
and
Contract employees (on a case-by-case basis)


Take this course if:
you have already successfully completed the Writing for the web at UFV portion of the training


Time commitment:
3 to 4 hours

 

When you register for training, you can choose from two options; however, to become a web editor at UFV, you will need to complete both courses.

At this time, auxiliary staff and student employees are only eligible for the Writing for the web portion of the training and may not request editing rights to a blog or website.

 

How to become a web editor

Ready to start? Make sure to review the steps to understand the process to become a web editor at UFV. As you progress through the course, we will guide you through each part of the training and assessments.

Register for training

Submit a request to register for Web Editor Training and choose “Writing for the web at UFV.” You will receive a message in your email inbox that gives you access to the Writing for the Web training modules.

Complete part one: Writing for the web at UFV

In the first part of the web editor basic training, you will learn how to create compelling web content. You will be asked to demonstrate your web editing skills by creating a content outline, rewriting copy to make it web-friendly, and optimizing a page structure for search engines.

After the web team has graded your assessment and you have passed, your results and instructions to start part two will be provided through the TDX ticketing system.

Assessments: 3
Passing grade: 75% on each assessment

Complete part two: T4 training for UFV web editors and submit your training website for review

After you pass Writing for the Web, you will need to submit a new request for Web Editor Training and choose the ‘T4 training for UFV web editors’ option. Once your request is reviewed and approved, a web team member provide you instructions to start the course through the TDX ticketing system.

In the second part of the web editor basic training, you will learn how to perform basic web editing tasks using UFV's content management system, TerminalFour. You will be asked to demonstrate your T4 knowledge by creating, modifying and publishing webpages and working with media assets such as pictures, pdfs, and hyperlinks.

When you are ready to submit your training website assessment, send an email to myweb@ufv.ca with the subject line ‘T4 training complete’ to let us know your assignment is ready to be graded.

Passing grade: 80%

Request permission to edit a website

Once you complete both modules and pass the assessments, you are automatically registered as a UFV web content editor. As a web content editor, you are able to request access to edit parts of the website. 

Note: Access to the UFV website may be limited to specific sections depending on the department you work in and/or projects in your portfolio.
