IT Student Success Stories

A year ago, my journey with UFV Information Technology Services started as an Auxiliary, IT Support Analyst. Since then I have grown immensely as an IT professional and as an individual. I graduated from UFV in December 2018 with a Computer Information Systems Diploma and a Professional Communication Essentials Certificate.

Just like many fresh graduates, this opportunity was my leading step in the IT field. I was determined to get the best out of it. Working in such a positive environment helped me convert the possibilities into reality. It helped me bring my subject knowledge into a real workplace experience.

I learned a plethora of new skills and was always guided by experienced mentors. I felt encouraged to learn, explore and ask questions to find answers. Here I met the humblest leaders who acknowledge the hard work and sincerity. This position has brought me a step closer to achieving my career goals by opening exciting paths for me in this field. I am very glad to choose UFV Information Technology Services to work with.

I love hiking. I grew up in Qatar where hiking wasn’t really possible so it’s special to live in a scenic place that’s not overcrowded. The first time I saw a clear blue sky free from pollution was when I arrived in BC! But, I still enjoy big-city culture and crowds from time-to-time.

I began working at the university as a student. I started as a lab monitor, then as a work-study student, then as a co-op student and then as a support analyst. After graduation, I was hired as a technical analyst.

Working at UFV and living in the Fraser Valley means I don’t have to choose between career and lifestyle. I can grow in my career, hike at Lindeman Lake and take advantage of everything Vancouver has to offer.
