Is there a difference between a Sponsor and a Donor?
YES, there is a difference. A sponsorship is not tax deductible because the sponsor is receiving benefits from the transaction in the form of corporate recognition, advertising, and promotion. A donation is tax deductible because the donor is giving a gift. Your name, or anonymous if you request, will be included on our online donor list.
What are the benefits of becoming a sponsor? What are the funds used for?
A sponsor can enjoy a wide range of benefits depending on the level of sponsorship you decide on. Sponsorship can raise brand awareness, promote a positive image in the community, and raise awareness of the organization as a whole. By becoming a Fraser Valley Regional Science Fair sponsor, you will have the opportunity to support science education for our youth and create a significant and positive impact within our community. An investment in our young scientists is an investment in our future!
The FVRSF is an entirely volunteer-run event that relies on support from several generous sponsors in the Fraser Valley. Every dollar of support we receive goes directly to sending our finalists to the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) and to help with general fair operation expenses. Each year we have the opportunity to send up to 9 of our top scientists to the CWSF with 2 designates (chaperones). The cost per student attending the CWSF is prorated so no matter where in Canada the fair is held and where the participants are coming from, everyone pays the same. Each year the cost to send one student to the CWSF for one week is $1,950 which includes registration, airfare, accommodation, and meals.
What are the levels of sponsorship that the Fraser Valley Regional Science Fair offers?
We are pleased to offer a range of sponsorship tiers from Friend to Platinum. For a full list of benefits, please see our Sponsorship Levels. We are happy to work with you to identify an appropriate sponsorship opportunity.
Can I as an individual or my organization donate towards a specific award?
Short answer YES. An individual or an organization can donate funds directly to an award of excellence/innovation or it could be more specific to your organization's or personal interests (ex. forestry, aviation, environment). If you choose to create your own award named after your organization such as "The Abbotsford ABC Co. Health Sciences Award", you would be considered a sponsor - so no tax receipt would be given for this donation. If the donation goes to a general award for example "Health Sciences Innovation Award" this would be considered a donor and a tax receipt would be issued.
What are the benefits of becoming a donor? What are my funds being used for?
As a donor, you will receive a tax-deductible receipt. Your name, or anonymous if you request, will be included on our online donor list. You have the satisfaction of knowing that you have supported science education and helped create a positive impact within our community. An investment in our young scientists is an investment in our future!
Every dollar the FVRSF receives from our sponsors and donors goes directly to sending our finalists to the Canada-Wide Science Fair and to help with our general fair operations. As a donor, you can choose to donate your funds to an award, our operations budget, or both.
