PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Imagine yourself developing new consumer products, presenting recommendations to a panel of executives, traveling the globe as part of an international merger team, or crunching the data on the profitability of a new product line. A UFV School of Business BBA is your first step to an exciting career in the world of commerce.

In your first and second year, you complete foundational business, math, economics, marketing, and finance courses to establish a broad base of knowledge.

In third and fourth year, you get to specialize by choosing from one of five majors or five minors. Each includes tailored courses to refine your skill set:

Alternatively you may pursue a general business degree.

No matter your choice, the BBA provides a strong foundation in business and economics, supplemented by a selection of course offerings in English, social science, science, and the humanities.

Additional opportunities

Study abroad in one of 20+ countries and earn UFV credits at a partner university — partners that include top global business schools. Students who take advantage of the Study Abroad program gain a global network of connections, build cultural knowledge, and are better equipped for the global marketplace.

Build credibility and on-the-job skills by opting for the Co-operative Education option. Combine study semesters with four- eight, or twelve-month paid work terms, offered in regional, national, and global firms. Positions are available in all major/minor specialization areas and in varied industries. These opportunities provide you with valuable experience and boost your career prospects.

Earn an honours degree through a combination of academic excellence and completing an additional 12 upper-level (numbered 300-400) business credits beyond the program requirements. Courses from other areas can be counted with special approval.

Canada needs talented analytical thinkers who can spot trends, identify risks, and tackle complex challenges. As a UFV School of Business graduate, you are prepared to enter the dynamic world of business.

CAREER EXPECTATIONS

Upon completion of your UFV Bachelor of Business Administration, you may work in a variety of fields, including marketing, finance, accounting, economics, advertising, logistics, operations, management, government, retail and sales, or human resources.

With a UFV Bachelor of Business Administration, you can find employment with a range of employers, including:

  • Accounting firms
  • Financial institutions
  • Marketing firms
  • Small or large businesses
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Export management firms
  • Government

Alternatively, you may opt to launch your own business.

You may want to seek employment with companies that provide further training to earn a post-graduate certification such as: Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), Certified Marketing Specialist (CMS), or Sales & Marketing Executives International (SMEI).

UPGRADING OPTIONS

Apply to Qualifying Studies if you do not currently meet the BBA entry requirements in order to upgrade your qualifications for future admissions.

To meet the requirements of this program, you will need to meet the prerequisites for Calculus for Business (MATH 141) and Academic Writing (ENGL 105).

Upgrading Math courses

Upgrading options for math include completing two Introduction to College Math courses (MATH 094 and MATH 095) at a C+ grade or higher or, MATH 096. Please speak with a Qualifying Studies advisor to learn more about additional options.
