Douglas Mauger - Bio
Doug has been working with adult educators and learners in a variety of settings nationally and internationally since the mid-80’s. In 2000, he began to facilitate online learning and is constantly learning new ways to use technology to create a unique community and individual learning experiences.
Doug’s research interest focuses on how formative assessments bring about changes in the learning environment. This is combined with how the various formative assessment develops learners to become self-directed and regulated in all areas of their lives.
Currently, Doug teaches at Vancouver Community College in the School of Instructor Education and has done so for the past 20 years. He is a conferences speaker and works as a consultant for companies and organizations in staff development and creating training materials.
Being a lifelong learner he completed his trade qualification and taught his trade at the Northern Albert an Institute of Technology and then at Vancouver Community College. While teaching adults and wanting to learn more about the teaching-learning process he completed his BEd. in Adult Education from the University of Alberta, a MEd. in Education Technology from the University of Calgary and an EdD focusing on teaching and learning from George Fox University. As a student, he has experienced a wide range of classroom, blended and fully online courses. These experiences have shaped the way he views the learning environment.
As an educator, he wants to create a learning-centered environment where both the learner and the facilitator come together and he is looking forward to seeing you in his next class in the faculty of Adult Education here at UFV. If he does not see you in the class he might see you on a ski hill, hiking in the great outdoors, canoeing one of the many waterways of this great province or riding along a roadway on your road bike.

While many are still adapting to online learning, Adult Education at UFV has been leading the way! I’ve taken online courses from other institutions, and UFV’s dedication to technologies made for my best overall online learning experience. The most important thing about my experience at UFV is the feeling that I mattered to the school and my instructors. I wasn’t just a faceless student, even in an online environment.
