2024 Governor General's Silver Medal Recipient - Biology Major Amrit Singh
When Amrit Singh sets his mind on an academic goal, he usually achieves it. So, when he zeroed in on winning the Governor General’s Silver Medal for 2024, odds were good he’d win it.
It took a ton of work to achieve the highest standing in an undergraduate degree program, but Singh did what he set out to do with an overall GPA of 4.27.
2023 Outstanding Leadership Award - Biology Major Manjot Benning
A student would have to be really outstanding to be the first-ever winner of the UFV Alumni Association’s Outstanding Student Leader award. Manjot Benning fits the bill, and then some!
She’s graduating this June with top marks in her Bachelor of Science degree program, with sights set on medical school applications in the future. She’s a straight-A biology major with a near-perfect 4.15 GPA and has been on the UFV Science Dean’s list since December 2019. [Read more at UFV Today]
2023 UFV Young Distinguished Alumni Award
Eryn Braley is thankful to have chosen a career in Indigenous public health that allows her to connect with her Indigenous identity. “I am so appreciative of the Indigenous mentors and peers that have guided me in my career and personal journey. Through teachings, connection, and ceremonies, I am connecting with who I am as nehiyaw iskwew, a Cree woman.”
In recognition of her dedication and innovation in ensuring Indigenous Peoples are heard and respected within the health care system in British Columbia, Eryn (BSc ’19 Biology major) is the 2023 recipient of the UFV Young Distinguished Alumni award. Read more > [Watch video]
2021 BSc Graduate, Isabelle St-Martin, Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies Dean’s Medal Recipient
BSc Graduate, Isabelle St-Martin, recipient of the Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies Dean’s Medal for 2021. Dr. Peter Geller, Interim Dean, presented her with the medal earlier this month. Isabelle graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with a dual major honours in biology and physics, a mathematics minor, as well as a cellular, molecular, and genetics concentration.

Biology students return from the 2019 In Vitro Biology Conference with awards in hand!
Dr. Lucy Lee, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and research students Brenna Hay, Petra Dueck Lee, and Arianne Qanbery attended the In Vitro Biology Conference held in Tampa, Florida this month. This international conference hosted by The Society for In Vitro Biology focused on current trends and cutting-edge topics in plant and animal biotechnology and genomic editing. 2018 UFV Young Distinguished Alumni Award
Andrew Alexander has only been a UFV alumnus for four years, but he’s accomplished enough in that short period to earn him the Young Distinguished Alumni Award for 2018.
After finishing his Bachelor of Science (Honours) with minors in biology and chemistry in 2014, he headed into a master’s degree program in molecular biology and biochemistry at the University of British Columbia and then was invited to transition straight into a PhD program, where he continues his research. He has completed all the coursework for his doctorate with an A+ average. Read more>

2015 UFV Distinguished Alumni Award
When Dr. Mike Hildebrand says he’s working in his lab at Carleton University, he’s speaking literally. The lab is named after him and it’s symbolic of his long journey and the path he has taken from UFV and the Fraser Valley farm where he grew up, to the chronic pain research he now leads.
This fall he returns to his hometown of Abbotsford and to UFV where he will be recognized as the Distinguished Alumni Award winner for 2015. Read more>
