Berry Production Essentials certificate

This certificate is comprised of 18 credits (6 three-credit courses) and is designed for those entering the berry industry, who wish to gain sufficient knowledge and certification to position themselves for advances within the farm structure and as professional development for others whose employment requires up-to-date knowledge of berry production. The certificate can easily ladder into a Horticulture certificate program or Agriculture diploma at UFV, for students wishing to further their expertise and professional advancement in the horticulture industry.

Entrance requirements

1. B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent, or minimum 19 years of age before first day of class.

2. Applicants must satisfy the English language proficiency requirement. For details on how this requirement may be met, see English language proficiency requirement in the Admissions section of the calendar.

3. Admission to the Agriculture Technology department. Some courses have prerequisites. Prospective students are encouraged to meet with the Agriculture Technology department before applying to the program. 

How to apply

Submit your application fee, along with your UFV application for admission form, to the Admissions and Records (A&R) office. You can apply online or download an application form at ufv.ca/ar/admissions/apply. Application forms are also available from any A&R or Student Services office.

Document required for a complete application:
• Proof of B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent.

When to apply

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis throughout the year. Qualified applicants are considered for the next intake in which there is space. See Continuous application process for more information.

Location

Chilliwack campus. Some courses may be available online.

Program requirements

The certificate requires two hands-on horticulture lab classes, one introductory theory course in horticulture, a course in soils, a course in pest management fundamentals, and a course in fruit crop production.

Continuance and probation

Some courses have prerequisites. Prospective students are advised to meet with the Agriculture Technology department before commencing the program.

Residency

Students must complete at least 50% of credits required in the certificate at UFV.

Graduation requirements

A minimum GPA of 2.0 in all courses is required in the program.
