Adventure Tourism Training (ATT) certificate

Note: This program is not available in 2012/13.

This program will provide students with an introduction to the adventure tourism industry. They will acquire basic motor and safety skills in a wide range of adventure-based activities, as well as an introduction to the theoretical and business aspects of the industry. Graduates of this program will be qualified for entry-level employment within a wide range of adventure tourism venues, or to pursue further studies.

This is an eight-month certificate program, beginning in January. Applications are accepted beginning August 1 of each year. Please contact ATT coordinator Roger Friesen at 604-504 7441, local 4297, for more information.

Entrance requirements

Students must have completed the following requirements:
• B.C. Secondary School graduation or equivalent
• Principles of Math 11 with C+ or better
• 300-500 word statement identifying goals and objectives, and knowledge of the adventure tourism industry.

Students should be aware that they will be required to meet the prerequisite for CMNS 125 (see the course listing for details). Students who do not have the required courses or grades should plan to write the Composition Placement Test prior to registration.

Students who do not meet these requirements might consider the Kinesiology Studies program path.

This program is not accepting applications for 2012/13.

How to apply

1. Submit the application fee along with your UFV application for admission form to the Admissions and Records (A&R) office. You can apply online or download an application form at ufv.ca/ar/admissions/apply. Application forms are also available from any A&R or Student Services office.

Additional documents required for a complete application:
• An official high school transcript showing proof of graduation and Principles of Math 11.
• The 300-500 word statement.

2. Upon admission to the program you will be provided with a registration information package. A deposit is required when you register (see the Fees and Other Costs section). This money will be applied toward your tuition fees. Final payment of all course fees is due at the end of the second week of classes.

Basis for admission decision

Applicants who meet the entrance requirements will be admitted in order of their application date. This date is set when an application, all required documentation, and the application fee have been submitted.

Duration

Duration of the program will be eight months starting in January and ending in August.

Students may enroll as part-time students with the understanding that full-time status is required in order to be eligible for financial assistance.

Applications are accepted on or after August 1.

Program regulations

Continuance in program

Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their success in their studies. Students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 for continuance in the program.

Probation

Students who have a CGPA lower than 2.0 will be placed on Academic Warning for the following semester. A student on Academic Warning may not register in a course overload. Students who do not achieve a semester GPA of at least 2.0 while they are on Academic Warning will be required to withdraw from the program.

Field courses

The Adventure Tourism Training program includes field-based courses. Full attendance on all aspects of field courses is mandatory for successful completion of the ATT program.

Graduation

All courses and course requirements of the ATT program must be completed with a minimum GPA of 2.0 in order for the student to apply for graduation. It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that all program requirements are met. This should be done through regular consultation with the KPE program advisor.
