Educational Advising in Student Services

Educational Advisors assist you to identify your interests, abilities, strengths and weaknesses in order to develop an educational plan that best fits your academic, career, and personal goals. They demystify post-secondary education by teaching you about university processes and program requirements.

Educational Advisors work with:

  • New and prospective students
  • Undecided or undeclared students
  • Program path students (e.g. Arts Studies, Business Studies, CRIM Studies, KPE Studies, General Studies)
  • Students planning for graduate school or professional programs (e.g. Masters, PhD, Teaching, Law, Medicine)

College of Arts Advising

Working with Academic Advisors in the College of Arts, students learn to develop meaningful educational plans that align with their goals. Our Advisors will teach you how to connect your education and interests with activities and resources for the successful achievement of your goals. If you have been accepted to an Arts program, you can contact your advisor at one of the following offices:

Arts Advice Centre

The Arts Advice Centre sees students for the following programs:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree
  • Bachelor of General Studies degree
  • Bachelor of Arts of Global Development Studies
  • Associate of Arts degree
  • Liberal Arts diploma

Criminology/Criminal Justice Advising office

The Criminology/Criminal Justice Advising Office sees students for the following programs:

Fine Arts Advising office

The Fine Arts Advising office sees students for the following programs:

Science Centre Advising

The goal of the Science Advice Centre is to assist students in reaching their academic and career goals. Science Advisors will help you develop and evaluate your educational plans and provide you with accurate information about UFV policies, procedures, resources, and programs.

The Science Advice Centre advises students in the following programs:

  • Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Computer Information Systems
  • Associate of Science, CIS diplomas and certificates
  • Science and CIS studies

Program advising

If you have been admitted directly to a program (e.g. Business Administration diploma, Bachelor of Kinesiology degree, etc.) you will have a program-specific advisor. To find your advisor, read through the correspondence mailed to you or search the UFV websites.

Educational Advising at UFV International

Educational advisors provide international students with the opportunity to build interpersonal relationships with their advisors for the purpose of gaining assistance in making their educational plans, in learning the skills needed for academic success, and in learning how to access the resources and services that are available to them.

Educational advisors at UFV International work with:

  • Prospective international students
  • Current international students in English-as-a-second-language, University Foundation, and pathway programs
  • International students who intend to transfer or pursue graduate studies or an additional program
  • International students who have academic concerns pertaining to their status
  • International students who want to apply for or change programs
