Rod Peters is from Seabird Island Band.
Education has been his lifelong career. Peters began working in the education field in 1984 as the Home-School Coordinator for Band, Public Schools, and Post Secondary Students. From 1995 to 2002 he was the First Nations Support Worker at Agassiz Elementary Secondary School, where had graduated from in 1979.
From 2002 to 2021 he was the District Aboriginal Education Coordinator for School District #78 Fraser Cascade which included 9 School’s, 10 Support Workers, 1 Mentor and the Halq’emeylem and Nlaka’pamux Languages, which served 12 surrounding First Nations, Metis and Off-Reserve Students. Peters has remained active within his community, having served 4 terms on the Seabird Council with his role in Governance for the Membership.
He continues to be active in sharing his knowledge through Riverside Consulting, where he presents in Schools and Universities about Residential / Day Schools Era, Salmon Food preservation methods, and also offers Fish Camp tours, School Resources and local Indigenous courses. His first Indigenous People’s Knowledge course was taught at the University of the Fraser Valley in 2022. Peters retired from the education field in June 2021 with a robust network and support of many people in the B.C. Education System.
