Faculty and staff

Born and raised in Managua, Nicaragua. Teresa graduated from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua (UNAN) with a Licenciatura en Ciencias de la Educación specializing in Biology. She received her MA in Spanish-American Literature from the University of British Columbia (UBC).

Teresa worked in Nicaragua as an elementary school teacher, a high school teacher, and as a curriculum designer and consultant for the Ministry of Education. She taught Spanish at Carleton University, Trent University and Fleming College in Ontario before coming to UFV. 

As an instructor of the Spanish language, Teresa has contributed to the enrichment of the cultural environment at UFV through the promotion of Hispanic activities such as the Mesa Latina, Spanish film presentations, and Latin dance lessons.

Her own experience of learning English as an adult has made her more understanding of the difficulties of learning a second language.

Her areas of interest include methodologies in teaching Spanish as a second language and Latin American Literature, particularly the testimonial novel and modern short fiction.
