Study the art and business of flower arranging

UFV’s professional Floral Design program provides you with comprehensive training to prepare you to work in the floral industry or start your own floral business.

The instructor for the floral design certificate program holds a double certificate in Professional Floral Design and Wedding Design through Flowers Canada and the University of Guelph. She has been designing professionally for over thirty years. During that time she has had the pleasure of designing for pop stars, Hollywood, professional athletes and even British royalty. She has designed flowers for many TV shows and movies. She loves to keep up to date on the newest trends in floral design; passing along her skills, knowlege, and passion to her students.

This program teaches you hands-on techniques to master the fundamentals of flower arranging using fresh, treated, and dried floral products. You also learn the advanced techniques needed to flourish in the floral industry.

Job openings for florists exist in floral shops, wholesale businesses, grocery stores, and internet floral companies. Floral designers may also open their own shop.

Traditionally, flower arrangements are an important aspect of weddings and funerals. Because flowers enhance the décor of special events and meetings, floral opportunities also exist in the corporate and social event sector. In addition, flowers are traditionally used in church settings, with arrangements often done by skilled church volunteers.

As a recent graduate of the UFV Floral Design Program I would like to take a moment to share with you my gratitude for offering such a valuable certificate program. I believe this program is extremely useful for anyone who is considering becoming a Florist either full or part time; starting their own business or working for a Florist. Angela Henderson our professor, taught us the basics of learning Floral Design all the way through to Advanced Weddings! Angela's vast knowledge of the industry was poured into us. Her patience, encouragement, enthusiasm, and support are why all of us have done so well now that we have graduated.
