Frequently asked questions

We’re always looking for new submissions. Please review the following FAQ and the submission guidelines to ensure your work is considered for submission.

If you are a current UFV student, member of the UFV staff or faculty, or a member of the UFV alumni association, you are invited to submit your work. Third-party or previously published works will not be considered: that includes any work previously published on other websites, blogs, and/or social media (ie. Facebook, Instagram, etc.).

The Louden Singletree accepts original, unpublished fiction and non-fiction and poetry. Visual art (colour or black & white) is also accepted. All written work should be in English or accompanied by an English translation. We accept five submissions per person of which a combination of the following are permitted: maximum of three poems, and/or two pieces of fiction, and/or two non-fiction works, and/or two novel excerpts, and/or five visual arts pieces, and/or two plays.

All submissions are submitted through our online form — it’s easy and it’s green — and must follow the submission guidelines (Literature submission guidelines or visual arts submission guidelines).

The submission deadline for Issue 12 -2020 is December 20, 2019 at 11:59pm.

All works received are blindly reviewed by a panel of volunteers according to pre-established guidelines. All shortlisted works are then blindly reviewed and selected by the editorial board. In the event that multiple submissions by the same artist are selected for publication, a maximum of two pieces in any genre will be selected and published. All submissions will be acknowledged by email; however, the Louden Singletree does not have the time or resources to provide explanations or critiques for works that are not accepted.

The Louden Singletree is published annually in March or April. Accepted artists will be invited to read their work at the launch.

We cannot accept any pieces that have been previously published. This includes any piece that has been posted on blogs, facebook, or other websites.

By submitting your work to the Louden Singletree, you are granting the Louden Singletree unrestricted right to publish your work royalty free. This includes the initial publishing and re-publishing of your work in subsequent journals such as a best-of edition or anthology.

As the author, you retain ownership of the work, meaning you may still re-publish the piece elsewhere after publication with the Louden. Please review the submission guidelines for details (Literature submission guidelines or visual arts submission guidelines).

Lacey Hall UFV Alumni English

After graduating from UFV, I was hired as assistant to the Dean of Arts at Kwantlen Polytechnic University; I believe that the experience of taking an Honours major was a great asset to me in my interview as I was able to demonstrate exceptional work ethic, the ability to work closely on projects, and collaborate with others
