Peacebuilding and Reconciliation: From Embodiment to Academic Engagement

Abstract

In our everyday relationships, and in interactions in our communities and beyond, it is easy to recognize that we are, more often than not, trying to figure out what is not running optimally and how to fix it.  Although natural, these ponderings usually function in the subconscious realm.  Awareness allows us the opportunity to be more intentional and dig deeper into conflict analysis, developing peacebuilding strategies, and engaging in reconciliatory work.  These opportunities present themselves in all fields of education.  In my work, I employ these lenses in History courses and in Peace and Conflict Studies courses with the aim of raising personal reflection and criticality, and evoking transformative thinking and action in the ongoing processes of peacebuilding and reconciliation.
