Biography

Hello! I am Sharon Dias, a Brazilian geographer passionate about the interplay between people, cities and the local and global geopolitical dynamics. These topics have driven my passion for geography and to conduct community-based research exploring the spatial and social interactions of low-income communities in urban settlements in the Global South. On the teaching side, I focus on diversifying knowledge by connecting students to theories, empirical knowledge and dataset that help us to comprehend our complex and interconnected world. I have been teaching in Canada and Brazil on various subjects such as Human Geography, Geographies of Religion and Peacebuilding, Geographies of War, Terrorism and Peace, Qualitative Methods, Urban Geography, Geopolitics, among other topics. I have also worked for human rights in non-profit organizations, and in the public sector applying participatory urban planning, and consulting for social housing policy development.
