Hassan Javid is an Associate Professor of Sociology in the School of Media and Cultural Studies at UFV. Hassan received his PhD in Sociology from the London School of Economics, where he also spent some time as a Fellow in Political Sociology, and was an Associate Professor of Sociology at the Lahore University of Management Sciences in Pakistan before moving to Canada and joining UFV.
Hassan’s research focuses on the legacies of colonialism in South Asia, with an emphasis on understanding processes of elite reproduction and the relationship between class, state, and power. In recent years, he has written on elections, social movements, and democratization in Pakistan, and is currently exploring the links between authoritarian rule and the emergence of new forms of digital governance and surveillance.
