email Leanne(Senóqw’iye) Leanne Joe is an Indigenous Curriculum Developer – she is Stó:lō Xwelmexw from Sts’ailes, with lineage in Mathxwí, q̓ic̓əy̓ , and Skwah First Nations. She lives in Ch’iyaqtel with her husband Les and their family. She is a proud learner and sharer of Stó:lō cultural ways including language and land practices. Leanne’s passion is in sharing language and culture as it connects to curriculum through land-based learning. She is an alumni of the Bachelor of General Studies program with a Global Indigenous Geography theme at UFV. In 2019, she received the Lieutenant Governor's medal upon graduation, for her approach to encouraging inclusion of Indigenous people's perspectives and reconciliation, and her commitment to empowering Indigenous communities. During her undergraduate journey, she was a member of the Indigenization Committee of the Senate. Leanne also received the British Columbia Teacher's Federation Maxwell A. Cameron Memorial Award in 2022 as student in the UFV Secondary Teacher Education program. Leanne has completed a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction for Ecological Education at Simon Fraser University and a Graduate Certificate in Halq’emeylem here at UFV. Leanne’s desire to continue sharing Indigenous ways of knowing and learning here on Stó:lō Territory will be carried out in her role as the Indigenous Curriculum Developer in the Teaching and Learning Centre.
