Presidential search 2024-2025

The Board of Governors is starting the process to select the next President & Vice-Chancellor of UFV to succeed Dr. Joanne MacLean upon her planned retirement on June 30, 2025.

The Board leads the search for a new President & Vice-Chancellor per the Presidential Search Policy (247) approved by the Board and Senate.

As the search process unfolds, we invite you to come back to this page to find updates.

Presidential Search Committee — Call for Expressions of Interest

We now seek expressions of interest for the following positions on the Search Committee. In total, six UFV employees serve on this committee, four of whom Senate selects, and two chosen by the Board.

  • Three faculty members (on a permanent or continuing contract, including Directors of schools within Faculties), selected by Senate.
  • One senior academic administrator (Dean, Associate Dean, or Associate Vice-President from within the Provost’s portfolio), selected by Senate.
  • One staff member (on a permanent or continuing contract, FSA or exempt, and not an Officer of the University), selected by the Board.

Please note that service on this committee demands a significant commitment of time and attention. Members are expected to attend all meetings, with some taking place on evenings and weekends. It is expected that the search will be completed sometime in the Spring of 2025.

**Note** The Board will directly contact a member of the senior executive team to serve on the committee.

Selection criteria

Members of the Presidential Search Committee:

  • Have breadth and in-depth knowledge of UFV, its mission, vision, values, and key plans.
  • Understand the challenges and opportunities for post-secondary education over the next five to ten years.
  • Have demonstrated commitment to the development of UFV and its future success through current and previous involvement at UFV.

Search process

For the four positions selected by Senate, the Senate Governance Committee (SGC) reviews the expressions of interest and recommends candidates to Senate for approval.

The following guidelines are used:

  • SGC is responsible for ensuring the broadest possible base of representation given the available pool of candidates. As noted in the policy, this includes attempting to have at least two faculties represented and at least two campuses represented.
  • SGC makes every effort to ensure that committee composition considers the experience and interest of the candidates.
  • SGC exercises its best judgement, with the best interests of UFV at heart.
  • At an in-camera meeting, Senate approves the recommended names for membership on the search committee.

For the staff position, the Board Executive Committee reviews expressions of interest and considers the criteria above.
