Regalia (gown, hood, cap, and tassel)
Regalia is part of the tradition of graduating from a university. Regalia at UFV includes a black gown, a UFV hood or vee-stole (depending on degree, diploma, or certificate), and a cap and tassel with a year charm.
If you are a graduating student attending Convocation, you must rent a cap and gown (regalia) to wear at the ceremony.
You need to reserve your regalia before requesting tickets for your guests, so we recommend ordering your regalia as soon as possible (and no later than May 26). After this date, guest tickets may be limited.
Ordering your regalia
Before May 26, 2023 ($50 early bird rate)
Regalia can be ordered and paid for online until May 26 at 11:59 PM
Please bring your proof of reservation with you to pick up your regalia on the day of your ceremony.
Between May 27 - June 6, 2023 ($75 rate)
You can reserve your regalia using the online form, but the online payment portal will be closed.
You will need to bring payment (credit card, bank card, cash) on the day of your ceremony.
After you reserve your regalia, you may still request guest tickets but there may only be a limited number available.
On-site on the day of your ceremony ($90 rate)
You can rent your regalia on the day of your ceremony in Evered Hall.
Please join the line for on-site gown rentals after you check in.
Please bring payment (credit card, bank card, cash) with you to rent your regalia on the day of your ceremony.
When to pick up and return your regalia
Bring your receipt from the online order.
Doors to Evered Hall will open to pick up your regalia 1.5 hours before your ceremony start time. You must be on-site at least one hour before your ceremony.
Team Convocation members will be on hand to assist you with your regalia and direct you to the marshalling area.
Regalia must be returned within 1.5 hours following the ceremony.
What does my regalia fee include?
The fee includes the rental of a black gown and UFV hood and the purchase of a cap, tassel, and year charm. Proceeds from the purchase of your cap and tassel will go to the UFV Alumni Association and will support the leadership awards funded by the association.
Do I have to wear regalia?
You do need to wear your gown and hood or vee-stole to participate in Convocation with your graduating class. Wearing a cap and tassel is optional at UFV. However, your regalia package price includes the purchase of a cap, tassel and year charm as a keepsake of your graduation ceremony.
If you cannot pay for regalia
If you do not have a credit card, you can use a Visa gift card or can make alternate arrangements to order regalia by contacting us at convocation@ufv.ca.
Financial Aid and Awards provides assistance with a UFV Student Emergency Fund form for students who may be unable to pay for the rental of graduation regalia. The form is available at any Financial Aid and Awards office.
If you need to cancel your regalia order
Orders can be canceled prior to May 27, 2023. You can cancel your rental by going back to the rental website and logging in using the email and password you set up when you rented online. There are no refunds or cancellations after the rental deadline. After this date, gowns are picked, cleaned, packed, and shipped. Cancellations are no longer possible.
