Advanced Excel for the Office

Cost: $170

Learn to use financial functions, pivot tables and charts, and custom format codes. Add data to multiple worksheets and consolidate data. Completing Excel Basics for the Office or Excel Level I before registering for this course is recommended.

This course will be conducted through Blackboard Collaborate. Students will be emailed a Session Link before the start of class. During class time an instructor will provide a live tutorial that you can work along with. The virtual office hours are to ask in depth questions after you’ve had time to practice new skills. Attending the virtual office hours is not mandatory.

Students should have a computer/laptop with a strong internet connection and MS Excel. A mic is needed if you would like to speak directly with the instructor.

Advanced Word for the Office

Cost: $170

Enhance your skills by working with advanced elements in Microsoft Word, including forms, table of contents, indexing, and tab stops. Find out how to create mail merges, track changes, navigate comments, and compare and combine documents.

This course will be conducted through Blackboard Collaborate. Students will be emailed a Session Link before the start of class. During class time an instructor will provide a live tutorial that you can work along with. The virtual office hours are to ask in depth questions after you’ve had time to practice new skills. AutoCAD I & II

Cost: $795
Prerequisite: An entry-level Windows computer course or equivalent experience and keyboarding proficiency.

This class covers basic and intermediate AutoCAD drafting principles. Learn to navigate the AutoCAD desktop, draw objects, insert and edit text and build accurate visual representations with AutoCAD’s drafting tools. Understand the use of CAD in the industry, technical presentation methods, and file management. Advanced techniques include learning industry methods to manage AutoCAD drawings and drawing setups, layers and linetypes, viewport and layout management, dimensioning tools, and blocks and attributes. Build symbol libraries and print singulars and sets. Upon completion, you can use AutoCAD’s editing tools to create and print drawings with accuracy and assurance.

Excel Basics for the Office

Master Excel basics: learn to create, edit, and format worksheets. Work with auto fill, flash fill, formulas, graphics, spark lines, and charts. This course is designed for people with no previous Excel experience.

Excel Level I

Cost: $335

This course is offered as part of the Bookkeeping for Small Business certificate. However, anyone is welcome to sign up for this course to enhance their skills. Check out the Excel Level I schedule on the Bookkeeping for Small Business page. 


Excel Level II

Cost: $335
Prerequisite: Excel Level I

Learn how to use intermediate MS Excel tools such as hyperlinks, PMT function, and additional formatting to create workbooks, including templates and multiple worksheets. This course will help you further develop your skills in chart creation.

This course is not a graduation requirement for the Bookkeeping for Small Business certificate.

Keyboarding Assessments

Cost: $25

As of January 1, 2017, Continuing Education no longer accepts third party keyboarding assessments for program admission.

Students applying to the following programs are required to submit a keyboarding assessment as part of their admissions criteria:

Keyboarding Assessments have moved online. Certificate program students who have satisfied all other entrance requirements will be Conditionally Admitted to their program. They will be fully admitted once they have submitted proof that they meet their program’s minimum keyboarding speed.

Students may submit videos of their timings. The videos must meet these requirements:

  • Complete the Assessment through our online program
  • Timings are 5 minutes long and every error reduces the wpm by two (e.g., a 46 wpm timing with two errors would be a 42 net wpm timing).
  • Check that your hands, keyboard, and screen are visible
  • Introduce yourself (name and program)
  • Move the video recorder to show the timing information when done
  • The video must be seamless without any breaks in the recording

How to submit your video:

  • Upload your video to YouTube, Vimeo, or another video site
  • Submit the video and copy of government issued picture ID, like driver’s licence (as verification of identity) to continuingeducation@ufv.ca
  • Include your UFV student ID number and program in the email

Keyboarding Online

Cost: $130

This 24-hour, online course will cover an introduction to letter keys, numbers, and symbols using a computer keyboard. Students are expected to login and practice at least twice a week to be successful. The software is designed to monitor speed, accuracy, and confidence and will also cover tips for proper keyboard positioning.

Purchase software Access Code at UFV Bookstore prior to class.

MS Office Fast Track

Cost: $300

Tour the whole Microsoft Office suite and get introduced to applications such as Access (database), Excel (spreadsheet), Word (word processing), PowerPoint (presentation), and Outlook (email). Get hands-on experience using these tools to create compelling documents and presentations.

This course will be conducted through Blackboard Collaborate. Students will be emailed a Session Link before the start of class. During class time an instructor will provide a live tutorial that you can work along with. The virtual office hours are to ask in depth questions after you’ve had time to practice new skills. Revit Architecture

Prerequisite: Knowledge of architectural construction terminology and basic drafting practices.

This course covers the basics of Autodesk Revit in an architectural environment. Learn to plan and design a building from concept through construction documentation. Word Basics for the Office

This course is a quick way to learn basic Microsoft Word skills. Learn to create, edit, and format themes, as well as style documents. You will also work with headers and footers, bullets, drop caps, graphics, and columns.
